video of my video

One of the challenges of being an artist that works with software is that I’m not always able to remember how I did something. A lot of what I do is stumbling around in the dark, pushing buttons to see what gives me a good effect. I get so caught up in the moment that I might not be able to recreate the exact layer upon layer mix . Sometimes this is true months later and sometimes it’s immediate.

I got to thinking about this as I watched my video Hanabi that I made a few years ago for the screens at Victory Park in Dallas. I might be able to do that again but I’m not sure. And do I really want to? I’d like to keep trying new things and maybe not remembering how to do something is part of what pushes me forward. Despite that possibility, I’ve recently started to document my processes but stopping to make notes is not always easy in the heat of the moment.
